Many Jewish seniors live in non-Jewish nursing homes or alone at home, and they are often frail, lonely and bored. JEEP brings them Jewish learning, the holidays and friendly visitors. Our goal: a warm Jewish visit for every senior, every day.
What we do
We help seniors discover the world of Jewish learning, and we bring them tools to battle depression, loneliness and boredom.
Classes
“The Jewish Hour”
A class twice a month at the Evergreen and Norwood retirement communities. Torah, the holidays, and the memories they bring back. Ask us about classes by phone, too.
Visits
Regular visits
JEEP’s rabbis visit seniors in care homes across the area, and seniors who are isolated at home. We bring a friendly face, a little Yiddishkeit and time to talk.
Holidays
The holidays, brought to them
The shofar at Rosh Hashanah. Matzah and a Seder meal at Passover. The Megillah and a Purim bag. Chanukah parties with dreidel and songs.

Memories come back.
A holiday can open a door that has been closed for years. Here is what seniors have told us.
“Will you come and blow the shofar for me again this year?”
The only Jewish resident of an outlying nursing home. She calls us every week to tell us how she kissed her mezuzah and thanked G-d that she is alive.
“My grandfather always lit the menorah in our house…just like this.”

Don’t see your parent’s home here? Tell us anyway. We go where we are needed.
How to take part
For families
If your parent or grandparent lives in a care home, or alone at home, call or text 513-307-2386. Tell us their name and where they live, and we will arrange a visit.
For volunteers
Friendly and caring folks of all ages are welcome. A short, warm visit from you can make a senior’s week.
